THE COFFEE GARDENS
In partnership with select coffee farmers in Eastern Uganda, we produce specialty Arabica coffee. All our coffee is fully traceable and produced to high ethical standards at our micro-processing station in Sironko, in the foothills of Mount Elgon.
OUR VISION
With volcanic soils, high altitude and an abundance of shade trees, the Mount Elgon Region in Eastern Uganda has the potential to produce world renowned specialty coffee.
By working directly with individual farmers, we are able to understand their specific needs and ambitions. We work together to improve coffee farming practices using climate smart and environmentally sustainable approaches.
Our partner farmers grow exceptional coffees, which we process on our micro-processing station. We designed our station to maximise the quality, consistency and traceability of our coffee, which we offer to world markets.
Through a long term collaboration, our farmers are now able to secure higher incomes and grow their businesses for themselves and future generations.
Our APPROACH
When we started The Coffee Gardens in 2017 - working with one farming family - we wanted to prove we could offer traceable specialty coffee that was produced in a way that benefited farmers and the environment.
In 2018, we took a major step by setting up our own micro-coffee processing station in the Bukyabo valley, beneath our farming community. We implemented strict processing practices using state of the art equipment, and developed mobile tools to track each batch of coffee from the gardens to the store.
In mid 2019, we formalised a long-term partnership with Falcon Speciality who now exclusively offer all of our green coffee to roasters and coffee shops. Together, weโre ensuring a direct connection between our farmers and coffee drinkers across Europe.
We are now working with nearly 600 farming households in Eastern Uganda.
We also work with various NGOs to provide sustainable farm management training to our farmers, to improve yields, conserve the environment and allow us to work towards organic certification. For the community around our processing station, we provide purified water and fertiliser from our coffee waste.
These partnerships mean we can focus on producing the highest quality coffee and creating a meaningful impact in our farming communities.
Our strategy with our partner farmers is clear: we offer above market prices, ongoing training and access to finance, so that
Our farmers are rewarded for higher cup scores, creating an incentive to improve coffee growing practices.
Our customers are guaranteed that the specialty coffee they receive is directly benefiting farming communities and promoting environmental protection.
Our business offers high quality coffee produced in an ethical way.
